Current status of JAEA-AMS-TONO, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency

Matsubara, Akihiro; Kokubu, Yoko; Nishizawa, Akimitsu*; Owaki, Yoshio*; Nishio, Tomohiro*; Ishimaru, Tsuneari; Hanaki, Tatsumi

Proceedings of 4th East Asian Symposium on Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (EA-AMS-4), p.147 - 150, 2011/12

The JAEA-AMS-TONO at Tono Geoscience Center, Japan Atomic Energy Agency has provided rare isotope concentrations in sample materials for studies of geological environments of deep underground for development of the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste. The core facility is a versatile AMS system based on National Electrostatics Corporation Moldel 15SDH-2 (5 MV) Pelletron Accelerator installed in 1997. This system was designed for the determination of the isotopic ratios of beryllium, carbon, aluminium, chlorine, etc. We have also developed $$^{10}$$Be-AMS in order to further expand the system utilization for applications such as estimation of the exposure age of basement rocks and the sedimentation rates. In this article, the current status of $$^{14}$$C-AMS and $$^{10}$$Be-AMS in the JAEA-AMS-TONO are described.
